Finding Time

This workshop will introduce a variety of methods to reduce stress, increase focus and manage distractions so that you can find the ones that resonate with you. These simple practices will allow you to begin taking charge of your life in a way that no one else can do for you. There will be a number of topics along with interactive exercises introduced that will present the opportunity to understand how to make use of these techniques.

We will explore meditation techniques finding the ones that work for you. Meditation is being found to be “perfect practice” in the skills that make undistracted work a possibility: the ability to detect the first signs of mind wandering, to recognize and essentially forgive the impulse, and then gently to draw the mind back to the task at hand. During meditation and in everyday life, meditators may have more skill in reining in their wandering thoughts and bringing the brain back “on task”– than those who don’t routinely meditate. Scientific research shows that the mind can be trained. Just as we go to the gym to lift weights, this workshop creates the time for us to attend a “mind gym.”

Mindfulness and meditation enable us to stop trying, to let go of our stories, the dramas, our stressed mind, and to discover an inner easefulness and more peaceful state of being. Some people describe this as a sense of coming home, as if they had been away or out of touch with themselves without even realizing it; others experience it as a huge relief as there is a release of anxiety and self centeredness. This basic workshop can be presented as an introduction to mindfulness techniques or a series that allows you to practice the skills presented and
develop more tools for self-management.
