Preparing for Surgery

This is a workshop for anyone facing surgery and others who are interested in learning mind/body techniques for self-healing.

You will become an active participant in your healing/life process as you learn mind body techniques that will help you:

  • Feel calmer before surgery
  • Have less pain after surgery
  • Use less pain medication
  • Recover faster
  • Strengthen the immune system

The program has 5 steps: Relaxation exercises; active visualizations; tips on forming a unique support group; healing statements to be used by you and your doctor; and, meeting with your anesthesiologist.

It is best to bring a support person to the session; preferably the person who will be with you on the day of surgery.

The course is based on the work of Peggy Huddleston whose research and clinical work focuses on the ways emotions and the human spirit enhance healing.

Cheryl was a member of Peggy’s first workshop for trainers. Cheryl taught this course for 4-years at the North Broward Hospital District in Florida. She created CME courses and has been involved in supporting research. These sessions can be customized to work with patients in cancer therapies as well.
